Laboratory for University Development

Promoting data-driven modernisation of universities

Expedition on Student Success in Altai Krai and the Republic of Altai

From May 31 to June 9, an expedition organized by the "University Development" Laboratory took place, focusing on the role of universities in shaping youth trajectories and student success.

The expedition was led by researchers from the Laboratory, Ksenia Romanenko and Daria Platonova, and included students and graduate students from various fields of study: sociologists Mikhail Maltsev, Anna Blinova, Daniil Laskovyi, Ekaterina Pogumirskaya, demographer Kirill Chertenko, master’s students from the "Evidence-Based Education Development" program Ekaterina Maslova, Tatiana Akuneeva, Olga Nikiforova, Damir Saunin, and Vladimir Krestinin, as well as graduate student Pavel Serebrennikov from the School of Education.

The expedition team traveled along the route Gorno-Altaisk – Biysk – Barnaul and conducted research at six universities, while also considering the role of secondary schools and additional education organizations in youth trajectories.

The expedition provided an opportunity to study the context of university operations in different conditions (the only university in the single city of Gorno-Altaisk in the Republic of Altai, the science city of Biysk, and Barnaul, a large city and the capital of the urbanized Altai Krai). The team conducted numerous biographical and expert interviews, describing the missions of the universities and their specific approaches to working with students.

Based on the data collected during the expedition, academic and journalistic articles, as well as course and thesis papers, will be prepared.
